Review: Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine — Dyson’s First Wet-And-Dry Vacuum Surprised Us & This Is Why

Did you know this Dyson vacuum cleaner can wash your floors? Yes, the Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine — the latest addition to its repertoire of dustbusters — is the brand’s first wet-and-dry cordless vacuum. We got our hands on a set for a test run, and while we were impressed by the new Submarine wet roller head, there were a few other functions that took us by surprise.
The V12s Detect Slim Submarine Complete set comes with the Motorbar cleaner head, a Fluffy Optic cleaner head, and the Submarine wet roller head. Also included are three more cleaning tools (including a fantastic hair screw tool, more on that later) and a free-standing charging dock. At $1,449 for the complete set, it’s not exactly the most wallet-friendly cleaner. Is it worth the splurge? We tried out the V12s Detect Slim Submarine and these are our top takeaways.
8Days Review: Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine Wet & Dry Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
#1: Mopping is so much easier and cleaner. The Submarine wet roller head has separate tanks for clean water and dirty water, so never the twain shall meet, and floors are mopped with only clean water (detergent can be used too). The water tank holds 300ml of water and that’s enough to cover 110sqm, or a five-room HDB flat, without refilling.
The 3.1kg V12s Detect Slim may feel slightly heavy after the water tank has been filled up, but it’s generally manageable. The weight takes a backseat when you witness its prowess in picking up and cleaning stains or spills. We tried it out with ketchup on vinyl flooring, and it worked like a breeze. Plus, we like that the floors aren’t left excessively wet after cleaning (it was completely dry after a couple of minutes). Cleaning and maintaining the wet roller head and attachment is also easy — just detach and wash it with soap or detergent.

#2: It’s opened our eyes to invisible dust. The Fluffy Optic cleaner head illuminates dust particles in hard to see places so you’ll never miss a spot. The green laser light also makes you feel like you’re in a sci-fi movie.

#3: The Hair Screw tool is life-changing. It can be used on sofas and mattresses to remove hair, dust and pet fur. We did, however, need a minute, to recover from the shock of just how much dust it managed to suck up from our sofa. We clean our home weekly, but have admittedly been neglecting our sofa. Well, not anymore.

#4: No more getting triggered. Instead of having to press a trigger while you’re cleaning (and risk cramping fingers), you now need only to press the power button to turn it on and off.
