First Look: Hugh Jackman Wears Wolverine's Iconic Yellow-Blue Costume In Deadpool 3

The cat, or rather Wolverine, is out of the bag.
Deadpool 3 — currently in production — has shared a first look of Wolverine’s get-up on Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ Instagram: the yellow-and-blue costume, just the one he wears in the comic books.
Even though Jackman is playing the mutant with mutton-chops and adamantium blades again — after he was killed off in 2017’s Logan — he promised fans that this ‘resurrected’ Wolverine is not the same as the one he’d portrayed in nine movies, starting in 2000’s X-Men.
“Don’t blink,” Jackman and Reynolds captioned the photo on their respective Instagram Stories.

Walk hard: Ryan Reynolds (we think) as Deadpool, and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
Plot details about Deadpool 3, which is being directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy, Real Steel), are scarce but it definitely involves Reynold’s fourth-wall-breaking, foul-mouthed character entangled in some multiversal shenanigans. That, and it will be Marvel Studios’ first R-rated feature.
The movie also stars Deadpool regulars Morena Baccarin (as Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Brianna Hilderbrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) and Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), as well as franchise newbies Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen.
Wolverine’s costume reveal follows news of Jennifer Garner returning to play assassin Elektra Natchios, a role she originated in from 2003’s Daredevil and her 2005 solo spin-off Elektra.
Deadpool 3 marks the MCU debut for Deadpool, Wolverine, and Elektra; their Marvel movies were made by 20th Century Fox before Disney’s acquisition in 2019.
Fox-era Marvel characters Prof X (Patrick Stewart) and Mr Fantastic (John Krasinski) made their first MCU appearances in last year's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
While fans are delighted to see Jackman’s return as Wolverine, Logan director James Mangold had mixed feelings.
“I can't say that there's a part of me that doesn't wish that we'd let it be,” the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny helmer told Variety. “But there was always going to be another Wolverine. There could be a baby Wolverine and a cartoon Wolverine. As much liquid as they can squeeze out of that rag, they're going to try to.”
He added: “I don’t measure my success on a movie like Logan with whether we ended the conversation. I ended my conversation.”
Deadpool 3 opens in cinemas on May 2, 2024.
