Chopard ambassador Bai Lu slammed for forgetting brand’s name at event

Chinese actress Bai Lu, 28, recently attended a Chopard event in Shanghai as the luxury jeweller’s ambassador.

However, things didn't go sparkling well for the star.

A video of the event shows the the actress, who was asked to talk about Chopard, freezing up as if she was struggling to recall the brand’s name.

Thankfully, the event host noticed what was happening and quickly stepped in to announce the brand, with Bai Lu repeating after the host with a meek smile.

She was also criticised for mucking up the pronunciation of certain English words.

According to netizens who were there, she pronounced 'hearts' as "hurts", and 'happy' as "habby"”.

Maybe she had stage fright?

Many netizens have since harshly labelled her “uncultured” and “illiterate”.

“It’s too easy for these people to earn money. They don’t qualify as good role models, yet they still have so many fans,” wrote one netizen.

Another commented: “[She] doesn’t need to do any prep work [for the event], doesn’t read scripts, and doesn’t even need a teleprompter. [She] earns money even when lying down. How great is that."

There were also netizens who defended Bai Lu, saying that though there were “small mishaps”, she did well holding a discussion on the brand.

Still, there were others who brought up how Bai Lu majored in Business in English, and even appears on her alma mater’s list of honorary alums. They found it strange that she could not pronounce basic words such as ‘hearts’ and ‘happy’, adding that she has “sullied the brand”.
